THE EFFECTIVENESS OF DUOLINGO APPLICATION ON STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY AT SMK PARIWISATA KOTA CIREBON

Abstract

This research aims to determine the extent to which students' English vocabulary has increased by using the Duolingo application as a teaching support tool to improve students' English vocabulary. This study will be carried out by researchers utilizing quantitative techniques. Researchers use samples in their studies. The sample in this study was 40 students from SMK Pariwisata Kota Cirebon.  They were X Culinary as the experimental class, and X OTKP as the control class. Duolingo application's ability to help students acquire vocabulary that they are unfamiliar critical to their language learning process. Based on the calculation, the experimental team's post-test findings showed an average score of 14.50, while that of the control class was 5.50. This is demonstrated by the fact that the difference between the p-value (p = 0.000 < 0.05) and the tobserve is bigger than the ttable (12.344 > 2.0243). Therefore, H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. The computation results showed that the average post-test score for the experimental class was higher, at 14.50. The result in the average score indicates a distinction in the proficiency between students who used the Duolingo program for instruction and those who didn't. There was a more pronounced rise in the experimental group. than the control group. This demonstrates the Duolingo software's success in helping users develop vocabulary mastery.
