Abstract

This quantitative study investigates the role of cultural awareness in improving English communication across cultural boundaries, with a special focus on the local culture of Cirebon, Indonesia. A survey was conducted among ten students, in Cirebon using a structured Google Form questionnaire. This finding reveals that understanding and respecting local cultural values such as linguistic politeness, traditional customs, and regional identity significantly increases the clarity, empathy, and effectiveness of English communication with people from different cultural backgrounds. This study emphasizes the importance of integrating local cultural identity into English learning and shows that cultural awareness training must be embedded in cross-cultural communication curricula.
