Abstract

This study explores the use of the Fondi application in developing speaking fluency and confidence among EFL students. The research is based on the challenges faced by Indonesian learners who often struggle with speaking anxiety and limited opportunities for practice, despite learning English as a compulsory subject. Using a qualitative case study design, two students from the English Education program were observed and interviewed over seven days while practicing with the Fondi application on various topics. Data were gathered through non-participant observation and interviews, then analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s model. The findings show that Fondi provided an interactive and supportive environment that reduced students’ anxiety, encouraged authentic communication, and improved fluency. It also helped students build confidence by lowering their fear of mistakes, increasing comfort in interaction, and supporting initiative during conversations. Students’ perceptions of Fondi were positive, as they considered it useful, enjoyable, and motivating. The study concludes that Fondi can serve as an effective supplementary tool in EFL learning, promoting active learning and supporting communicative competence
